Underdogs Of Bollywood

I am a huge movie buff thanks to my dear daddy. I can guess the movies with the help of the opening credits itself or the dialogues or the background music. What I feel for movies is something I cannot put down to words. When I sit down in the theatre, everything else goes away. And if the movie is amazing, it takes me into another world, makes me feel things that are happening in their story like my own. But sometimes a lot of amazing movies skip the common man's eye. Mind you, I have definitely not seen ALL the movies and there are so many more on my list that I need to watch but I cannot talk about each and every movie that people should watch. So here's just a humble list in no particular order of the movies that according to me should be watched by us, the audience.

underrated bollywood movies
Socha Na Tha
Directorial debut of the man who gave us the iconic Jab We Met, Rockstar and also movies like Love Aaj Kal, Cocktail, Highway, Tamasha - Imtiaz Ali! It's no secret that this guy understands complex human emotions, the dilemma of the heart and inculcating romance in a practical, real world. It is about Aditi and Viren who are forced to meet each other for an arrange marriage. They end up creating a rift between their families but becoming friends themselves. It's sweet, simple and a love story with a different approach. Watch it if you need to see a light, lovely movie.

99
From the guys who gave us Shor in the city and Go Goa Gone, this movie is a hilarious take on match fixing and gambling. The essence of this movie are the amazingly written characters with their own unique qualities and thought processes and also the perfect comic timing. Definitely watch it if you want to watch something funny and interesting with amazing characters and performances.

My Brother...Nikhil
In a country where people are yet not comfortable to talk openly about homosexuality and AIDS, this movie was a courageous breath of fresh air back when it was released and is still very relevant today. Rather than being preachy about the problems and the issue, this movie delivers it through a brother-sister relationship who love each other unconditionally. Humane characters and the bond between the leads is shown very beautifully in this film.

Dor
This movie is about two women who are miles apart and lead a very different life from each other but are yet somehow connected because of a tragedy. A very unique relationship has been showcased very beautifully in this film. Nagesh Kukunoor's amazing story telling skills and a different plot makes this film a memorable watch.

Lootera
This is a relatively much more known film in this list but yet it hasn't garnered the audience it should have. It is a story about a landlord's daughter who falls in love with a thief set in the Bengal of 1950s. Beautiful cinematography, perfect depiction of the old times, amazing performances by all the actors and a very soulful and memorable background music and soundtrack makes this movie mesmerizing. It is a beautiful movie that is worth a watch.

Tere Bin Laden
This is one of those smartly scripted comedies that we don't get so often. A TV reporter records a tape using a fake Osama Bin Laden to sell it to various channels. Along with being a satire, it also sends out messages subtly and shows how willing we are to achieve success by any means possible. It is an effortless comedy with a fresh story line and perfect comic timing.

15 Park Avenue
This film feeds off of complex human emotions, the difficult decisions, the internal struggles and especially the guilt associated with the characters. Konkona Sen Sharma plays a schizophrenic patient who imagines having an alternate life with her former fiancee and her kids, along with Shabana Azmi playing her elder sister and her care taker. Brilliant performances, intricately sketched characters and amazing direction makes this film stay in your mind for a long time.

Filmistaan
This film is a tribute to our very own Cine' рдоाँ ' . This movie proves how despite being separated by borders, India and Pakistan have always had a very deeper connection that is of culture and traditions. It shows how we are basically two trees with the sharing our roots. A funny movie with a strong message and very good performances makes this movie a nice watch.

So that's my list. Definitely there are many more movies that didn't receive the kind of love they should have but I can't speak for the movies that I haven't watched or the ones I found good enough because then the list would go on. I hope this list interests you in a good watch.
